Hello, and welcome to my profile.
Choosing to engage in therapy, or choosing to re-engage in therapy with a new therapist, can be a daunting experience. However, it can also be a life changing one with benefits that may stay with you both inside, and outside the consultation room. I want to thank you then, for taking the time to look at my profile, and consider me as your new therapist. To make this process hopefully as smooth and comfortable as possible for you, I want to let you know the way in which I work, and the experience I come with and draw from in starting therapy together.
About Me
My name is Christopher Cartner
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist accredited with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) specialising in trauma, sexual health, Chemsex and LGBT+ affirmative therapy as well as common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and stress.

My view is that on some level everything makes sense. Meaning, everything we do, however painful or seemingly nonsensical this may be, has its roots in something from our developmental, earlier or experiential life, which has at some point served a purpose for us. Though, these processes and behaviours may lose their effectiveness over time.
If we were to work together, we could look at some of these processes, explore their origin, their benefits, their costs, and together examine whether you would like to keep these, or whether we can explore what can be done to start to let these go.
Areas of Clinical Experience and Speciality
I come from a background in both the NHS and in private settings, with experience in offering support for the following concerns. However, this list is not exhaustive. So, please feel free to contact me for an initial 15 minute phone conversation to see if you may be interested in working with me.

I am UKAAN trained to assess for and diagnose ADHD in Adults. However, please be aware that I am unable to prescribe medication and will only be able to provide an assessment and diagnosis.
This session will usually take place over 2 separate assessment sesisons, each lasting roughly 1 hour long. These will take place over two different days.
If you may be interested in undergoing an assessment for adult ADHD, please contact me for an introductory call where we can discuss what you can expect from the assessment, and what your motivations for the assessment is.
